Training boxing gloves: choosing the right pair for effective progress

Training boxing gloves: choosing the right pair for effective progress

The choice of your training boxing gloves directly impacts the quality of each session. Comfort, hand protection, wrist support, shock absorption: every detail matters. At Metal Boxe, we've been forging champions since 1999. Each model in our range is designed for a specific profile, tested in real-world conditions by our partner athletes, and validated by our coaches before it reaches your bag.

Whether you're just starting or training multiple times a week, our collection covers all needs: from solid first equipment to high-end boxing gloves for the most demanding practitioners. 90% of our gloves are made from PU, some of which use recycled polyurethane. Delivery is free in metropolitan France above a certain purchase amount, from our logistics center in Toulouse.

Matching your training boxing gloves to your skill level

A casual practitioner does not have the same profile as a boxer who trains four times a week. They are not recommended the same glove. Our range covers several levels of commitment, with boxing gloves for beginners, intermediate models, and versions designed for intensive use. For an introduction or light practice, our Starter models provide a solid entry point: Velcro closure, effective basic foam, durable PU construction.

These are accessible boxing gloves that do not compromise on protection. For regular weekly practice, the Blade range offers the right balance: high-density injected EVA foam, firmer support, and a snug fit. Injected EVA foam retains its shape better over time and absorbs impacts uniformly, which is immediately noticeable on the bag and pads. Intensive practitioners will find enhanced absorption and optimized comfort for long and repeated sessions in our GRS, Ergo90, or Competition EV1 models. Note: Legacy leather gloves, available with Velcro or lace-up closures depending on the model, belong to the category of professional boxing gloves, designed for intensive sparring and competition, not for classic bag training.

How to choose your gloves according to the type of training

The type of exercise practiced should guide glove selection as much as skill level. Working on the bag, sparring, throwing combos on focus mitts, or getting into MMA: each puts different demands on the hands. For bag work, more compact boxing gloves for the bag with less foam are suitable. They promote striking speed, feel, and precision.

Our Bag Gloves model is designed specifically for this use. For sparring, the foam needs to be thicker to absorb repeated impacts and protect both partners. The sparring boxing gloves in our range meet this requirement with reinforced padding and strong wrist support. For technical work on focus mitts, a stable and well-balanced boxing glove is recommended. The best approach: two distinct pairs, one for the bag, one for sparring. This preserves the materials, limits moisture buildup, and extends the lifespan of each model.

Weight and Size of Training Gloves: Finding the Right Balance

The weight of the gloves, expressed in ounces (oz), is one of the first criteria to consider before buying boxing gloves. It must match the size and intended use. For an adult, 10 oz is sufficient for bag work. For sparring, 14 or 16 oz are preferred for better shock absorption.

Gloves that are too light for sparring protect neither the hands nor the opponent. Gloves that are too heavy tire the shoulders and disrupt combinations. Children's gloves start at 6 oz, suitable for smaller builds. Our size guide, available on the website, helps to choose the right size according to body weight and discipline. The Ergo90 and Military Green ranges are available in several colors, including khaki, black, and white, to suit visual preferences as well as the codes of certain disciplines.

Materials and Durability: Training Boxing Gloves Built to Last

Materials and Durability: Training Boxing Gloves Built to Last

Training boxing gloves for Muay Thai and kickboxing

Muay Thai and kickboxing impose specific demands: powerful punches, clinching, and close combat. A glove that is too stiff hinders clinching and restricts combinations. A glove that is too light lacks protection during exchanges. For Muay Thai boxing gloves, our Blade range meets these requirements: a firm hold thanks to its wide Velcro strap, high-density injected EVA foam, and a slightly adjusted design that enhances feel without restricting movement. The Black Thai, designed specifically for Thai boxing practitioners, offers padding and a cut adapted to this fighting style.

For regular practitioners, the best practice is to have one pair dedicated to the bag and another more padded pair for sparring. The Military Green range offers a solid intermediate option for versatile sessions combining bag work, pads, and technical training. Our selection of MMA fight gloves completes the equipment for practitioners who mix several disciplines.

Boxing gloves and savate boots: models designed for French boxing

Savate has its own specific demands. Gloves must allow for great freedom of finger movement to accompany kicks and quick footwork, while also offering sufficient protection during attacks. Our Savate Boxing Gloves, available in blue and red to meet the French Savate Federation's codes, are designed specifically for this discipline. The cut promotes mobility, wrist support is firm without being restrictive, and the sizes cover the needs of both junior and adult practitioners. This is the model for clubs looking for gloves that comply with federal regulations, with the reliability of a brand that has been equipping the noble art for over 25 years.

Maintaining Training Gloves: Extending Their Lifespan

Regular maintenance of boxing gloves is not an option; it's what makes the difference between equipment that lasts two years and equipment that wears out in just a few months. After each session, open the gloves to air them out and avoid leaving them in a closed bag. Heat and humidity accelerate the degradation of the foam and the outer material. Using absorbent paper or deodorizing inserts effectively reduces residual moisture. For cleaning, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient for PU. Leather gloves benefit from grease or protective cream treatment to maintain their suppleness. Avoid harsh chemical products. Wearing cotton boxing wraps under your gloves remains the best way to preserve the interior: they absorb sweat, protect the seams, and facilitate hygiene. Our Black Washable Boxing Gloves are a practical option for practitioners who want simplified maintenance: their construction allows them to be machine washed at up to 30°C, without fabric softener, and air-dried.
